Coupons are promotion codes issued and used as a discount towards a purchase. These are used as marketing & spend incentives to customers. Coupons are either funded by Takealot or Supplier funded and will target different groups such as first time customers or existing takealot customers.
Understanding the difference between the Coupons are important to distinguish which campaign it would be from and the process to follow when troubleshooting. The types of coupons can be divided into two groups.
Explicit Code: The same code is sent to all customers for the campaign running e.g. BACKTOVARSITY
Unique Code: A different code is sent to all customers but is linked to the same campaign.
Rules of Campaigns
The rules of the campaign stipulate specific criteria that govern the campaign. This could include but not be limited to a campaign for:
RULES |
|
First time or Existing customers |
Timeline - Validity start and end of campaign (always until 11PM)
|
Category specific e.g Health |
App based |
Product specific |
Website |
Product ID’s |
Mobi |
Cart specific - minimum spend |
Can be created to be specifically for a single or all channels |
Coupons Issued
When coupons are issued from Discovery or DSTV, it can only be purchased for certain products on the website relating to the supplier the coupon has been issued from.
The same amount of the coupon used would then be reissued when required e.g. R500 Coupon and DSTV Product R199 will then only have the R199 Coupon reissued to the customer as only that amount was used from the Coupon.
For Customers
The coupon will stipulate in the terms and conditions whether or not it may be issued to an existing customer or a first-time customer. First-time customers are customers that have no orders on their Takealot account and with existing customers are customers that have orders placed already even if they are cancelled.
Difference between Coupon and Vouchers
Reasons for Re-issue
We reissue coupon codes for certain justifiable reasons. These reasons are:
- An out of stock cancellation
- A supplier delay cancellation
- When a coupon was applied on an order that has been returned
If a coupon was used on a single item, however, the customer returns multiple items, we can issue a unique code that single item only and not the entire cart.
Troubleshooting
When a customer receives an error message upon attempting to redeem the coupon, basic troubleshooting can be applied in order to establish the cause of the error.
- Retrieve screenshot images from the customer of the coupon code as well as the error message
- Read the rules of the coupon as this usually provides an understanding as to why there is an error with the coupon.
- If the coupon is within the rules then you may escalate the details of the coupon to Tier 3 :: Coupon Escalations for further assistance.
- When all the troubleshooting has been completed and the error is valid, add it to the error section on the spreadsheet.
