Supplier Portal - Requirements for Ink and Toner Cartridges

To ensure an excellent experience for Marketplace customers:

1. It is best practice for ink and toner cartridges to be listed in a "New” condition. Several marketplaces prohibit sellers from listing ink and toner cartridges in "Refurbished", "Renewed" and "Used" condition.
2. All ink or toner cartridges should be packaged in pristine, unopened retail packaging, and product images must accurately depict the exact retail packaging the customer will receive. Sellers should not list ink or toner cartridges in open box condition or in inner factory foil packaging.
3. In line with Takealot’s terms and conditions, ink or toner products must be fully functional and free from defects that could render them unusable or harmful to printers (for example damaged, dried or leaking cartridges).

Best Before, Use Before, Use By, and Warranty Ends are all considered expiration dates. Expiration dates are the dates suggested by the manufacturer, and are printed on the product packaging, the product, or both.

1. The original expiration date printed by the manufacturer should be clearly visible and not altered when the product is shipped.
2. Ink or toner, if they have an expiration date suggested by the manufacturer, should only be shipped to customers when the ink or toner is at least 180 days prior to the date of expiration.
3. Sellers using 3^rd party fulfillment services, should ship their products to fulfillment centers reasonably prior to 180 days before the date of expiration.
4. For original ink or toner cartridges, please use the EAN to determine the appropriate SKU against which to list.
5. In accordance with Takealot’s terms and conditions, creating duplicate SKUs is strictly prohibited.

Cartridge Type Definitions

1. Original Ink or Toner Cartridge: An original ink or toner cartridge manufactured by the company that manufactured the printer in which the cartridge is used (such as HP, Canon, Epson, Lexmark, Brother, etc.), and which is in its original retail packaging.
2. Remanufactured Ink or Toner Cartridge: An original branded cartridge that has been used, remanufactured, and refilled with ink or toner. To varying degrees, the cartridge may have been taken apart, cleaned, and had parts replaced.
3. Refilled Ink or Toner Cartridge: An original branded cartridge that has been used and refilled with ink or toner. Normally, no parts of the cartridge will have been replaced.
4. Compatible Ink or Toner Cartridge: An ink or toner cartridge designed to work with a particular printer, but which was not manufactured by the company that manufactures the printer in which the cartridge is intended to be used. These cartridges are produced using mostly new or all new parts and components.

Ink and Toner Style Guide

To ensure an excellent experience for Marketplace customers, follow the guidelines below when creating listings for your ink and toner cartridges.  These guidelines are in line with global best practice. 

Title

A good title should be descriptive enough for a customer to make the purchase based on the information in the title alone. Avoid marketing language (free, exclusive, bonus, stylish, lightweight, heavy duty, etc.).

Follow the guidelines below when creating a title for your ink and toner cartridges. Please bear in mind takealot has a 75 character maximum on product titles.

Brand Name Guidelines

To ensure customers are clear what brand they are buying, the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Brand Name should not be placed directly after or before words denoting Non-Original Products (such as Remanufactured, compatible, alternative, replacement), unless they are separated by "with" or "for" (e.g. "Remanufactured HP" and “HP compatible” are not best practice). “Remanufactured for HP” and “Compatible with HP” are OK. Similarly, titles for non-Original Products should not start with the OEM Brand Name.

In accordance with Takealot terms and conditions, terms such as "equivalent, equal to, similar to" are not acceptable as they can cause uncertainty on product type.

Only original ink or toner cartridges may use the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) brand name. Refilled, remanufactured, and compatible products should list the refiller, remanufacturer, or compatible brand name.

For example, if the product title is LD Products Refilled Inkjet Cartridge Replacement for HP 953XL 3HZ52AE Pack of 4 Black, Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Compatible with HP OfficeJet 8210/8710/8720/8730/8740, the brand name should read:

Images

Upload individually or as batches in zip files through Seller Portal

Primary images should be only JPEG (.jpeg/.jpg) or PNG (no transparent backgrounds). Within the set image dimensions (600px x 2048px). Have a high resolution and have a minimum 72 DPI (to maintain the image clarity when zoomed). Within the set file size, i.e. 2 MB. 85% - 95% occupied by the product.

. As customers rely on primary images to determine what cartridge brand and cartridge number they are buying, show the retail packaging as large as possible (so the brand and cartridge number is readable). It is optional to include out of box cartridges in the primary image, but they should not reduce the size of the retail packaging or the ability to read the brand and cartridge number.

You can use up to 6 alternate images, and we recommend using all the image slots. Alternate images should feature the product in use as well as close-ups of important features.

Feature Bullets

Basic Guidelines

Write bullet points in sentence case (that is, with a capital letter at the start) and with no full stop at the end. Best practice is for each bullet point to be limited to 256-character including spaces.

Product Description

Be concise, honest, and friendly. Focus on your product's unique properties. Mention the best applications for the product. Check spelling and grammar!
